Temporary exhibition
The Charm of Antiquity
Art treasures from the Intesa Sanpaolo collectionsNov. 13 - Dec. 14
The exhibition presents a selection of remarkable works, chosen for their artistic value and unparalleled beauty.
Among them are the masterpiece “The Painter and His Model in the Open Air” (1963), signed by Pablo Picasso, as well as “Capriccio with Gothic Church and Lagoon” (ca. 1720–1721), by Il Canaletto. Pablo Picasso visits the Roman city of Pompeii in March 1917, impressed by the ancient frescoes. The discovery of the buried city at the foot of Vesuvius inspires him, and this fascination with the heritage of the ancient world comes to life today at Art Safari, where visitors can discover the unique way in which one of the most fascinating themes in the history of art and artistic taste is explored: the charm exercised, over the centuries, by Antiquity, regarded as the absolute model of ideal beauty.
Master Il Canaletto, renowned for the sensitivity with which he captures the Venetian atmosphere, became a representative of the pictorial genre called veduta from a young age. The work exhibited at Art Safari captures the mysterious charm of Venice, seen as if through a dream, on the border between reality and fairy tale.
